Recognize the Source of Personal Power

When you come across a fundamental truth, something within you immediately recognizes it without losing a single moment. When you feel the inner power of truth, when you come close to truth, you immediately appreciate it without argument. You don't have to accept it, you don't have to believe it, you recognize it in your being.

Authentic inner power is not something which you battle to learn, it feels familiar, it comes as something you recognize. You realize that you have always known this truth, and have just forgotten it, you remember rather than need to learn it from scratch.

Your Self-Sabotage Mechanism's Task

When you see an increase in personal power, write down the story of when and how you experienced that increase. Half a page on the circumstances and what happened to make you even more effective can change your life. This cements your understanding of your new truth, the koan which gave you that improvement.

Yet your self sabotage mechanism loses influence as you increase your personal power, so it may tell you that you can't afford the time right now. Its job is to sabotage any changes, and it's amazingly persistent in recommending the negative. So whenever you get the thought that you don't have the time or energy, investigate its truth. Then either make the time to write down what happened right now or schedule it for later, preferably before bed tonight.

It may even tell you that some nonsense like sorting your sock drawer, for example, is a more valuable use of your time! But don't delay, the sooner you do it, the more you increase your inner power.

This is why practice - time and energy - into these new perspectives is sooo important. There really is no free lunch! You'll change your life as you become more aware of your self sabotage and choose to be positive instead.

The Value of your Self Sabotage Mechanism

Whenever you follow your self-sabotage mechanism, you end up in less favorable circumstances. But if you're too busy to increase your personal power by giving it energy as explained above, not to worry. The resulting more difficult situations will encourage you to change your mind. Any experience of what you don’t want reminds you to choose actions which bring the more desirable circumstances you do want!

The energy you put into harnessing a koan's personal power is an investment which benefits you and your future. But you need to do the work, you can't get away with just knowing about it, the secret of success is to integrate it into your being. That gives real progress, the increase in personal power is available to you forever.
